GFX - free JSFX plug-ins for REAPER
===================================

Designed by JGWizrad.

180 plug-ins - instruments, drum machines, amps, channel strips, dynamics, EQ,
modulation, space, mastering and summing - plus the ORCHD chord script. Every sound is
synthesised - no samples. All plug-ins share one look, resizable S / M / L
panels and the same output stage.

ABOUT GFX
---------

GFX is free - for personal and commercial music alike. No accounts, no
licence keys, no time limits.

GFX is designed by me, JGWizrad. Every plug-in starts as my idea: what it's
for, how it should sound, how it should feel to use, and what it should look
like. I listen to everything, judge it by ear, and keep revising until it's
right - or I shelve it. The code is written with AI assistance (Claude and
Gemini), working to my direction: the AI turns my designs and feedback into
JSFX code and helps with testing; the decisions about sound, behaviour and
design are mine. I'm telling you this because I think you have a right to
know how the things you use are made - and because I'm proud of what that
collaboration has produced.

GFX is donationware. If a GFX plug-in earns a place in your sessions, you can
support its development at https://ko-fi.com/jgwizrad. Donations are
entirely optional and don't unlock anything - every plug-in is the full
version.

Please note: GFX is made by one person in their spare time. It's provided
as-is, without warranty, and without guaranteed support or updates. I fix
what I can, when I can, but I can't promise either. Bug reports are welcome;
replies may be slow.

WHAT'S IN THE ZIP
-----------------

  Instruments/, Arcana synths/, Drum machines/, Amps and drive/,
  Channel strips/, Dynamics/, EQ and filters/, Modulation and space/,
  Mastering/, Summing/, Utilities/
The plug-ins, one folder per kind, the same groups as
                    the website.
Legacy/ Older versions kept so old projects still open.
System files - do not delete/
Shared parts (the panel look, input and output stages,
drift and so on). The plug-ins will not load without them.
  GFX plug-in list.txt
Every plug-in on one line each: its name, what it is,
and its file, grouped by folder.
  GFX_ORCHD.lua ORCHD, a chord-writing ReaScript.
Scripts/ MIDI export scripts for Deep 16 and PCM 12, the tidy
FX names script and the track tools (new track,
make folder, collapse / show all folders, input to
all MIDI - no SWS needed) and Stem sort (a folder of
stems to a sorted, coloured session).
  Data/ Pattern files for Pulse.
  README.txt This file.

INSTALLING
----------

1. Unpack the ZIP.

2. In REAPER choose Options > Show REAPER resource path in explorer/finder.
Copy the whole GFX folder, with all the folders inside it, into the
Effects folder there (Effects/GFX). Keep the folders together inside
GFX. You can delete any plug-in you don't want; keep the
"System files - do not delete" folder.

Updating from an older GFX download (all files in one folder): move
the old GFX folder out of the Effects folder first, so REAPER doesn't
list every plug-in twice. If you also install GFX with ReaPack, use one
or the other, not both. (With ReaPack, tick Extensions > ReaPack >
Manage repositories > Options > "Install new packages when
synchronizing", so plug-ins added later arrive by themselves.)

3. Open the FX browser, press F5 to rescan, and search for GFX.
Each plug-in is listed by its own name, with GFX at the end
(Tandem Q [series comp + EQ] (GFX), K50 [workstation synth] (GFX)
and so on), so a screen reader says the name first.

Instruments go on a track and play from MIDI. Effects go on any track, bus
or the master.

Optional extras:

  - Pulse reads its pattern files from Data/gfx-drum-patterns. Copy that
folder into the Data folder in REAPER's resource path.

  - For MIDI export from Deep 16 and PCM 12, load the scripts in Scripts/
with Actions > Show action list > New action > Load ReaScript.

  - Track tools: load any of the other scripts in Scripts/ the same way.
Each opens a small window where you choose how it works. Its KEY
button makes the job an action of its own (KEY, then the key, where a
window has more than one): give that action a key in the Action List
(Add...) and the key does the job with your settings, without the
window. "GFX - collapse all folders" with J is the classic toggle.

  - Stem sort: run "GFX - stem sort", drop a folder of stems on its window
(or press OPEN), check the list (right-click a stem to move it), then
MAKE SESSION. Your stem files are only read, never changed.

  - Tidy names on your tracks: in the FX browser the plug-ins keep their
full names ("GFX Drive81 [preamp]", "GFX Lab C2M [compressor]") so
they stay grouped, but on tracks and in the mixer the long prefix can
hide which plug-in is loaded. Scripts/GFX - tidy FX names.lua shows
short names there instead ("Drive81 [preamp]", "C2M [compressor]").
      1. Load it: Actions > Show action list > New action > Load ReaScript,
         then pick the file.
      2. Run it. Its window counts the GFX plug-ins in the project and has
three keys: TIDY NOW, RESTORE (the full names back) and AUTO.
With AUTO lit it tidies every GFX plug-in as soon as you insert
it, and keeps doing so after you close the window; run it again
to bring the window back. It never changes a plug-in you have
         renamed yourself.
      3. To start it with REAPER every time:
         - with SWS: Extensions > Startup actions > Set global startup
           action, then pick "Script: GFX - tidy FX names.lua";
         - without SWS: in the Action List, right-click the script and
choose "Copy selected action command ID". In the Scripts folder
of REAPER's resource path, create a file named __startup.lua
(two underscores) containing this one line, with your ID in
place of PASTE_ID_HERE (it starts with _RS):
             reaper.Main_OnCommand(reaper.NamedCommandLookup("PASTE_ID_HERE"), 0)
Restart REAPER: it runs __startup.lua, which starts the script.

  - ORCHD: load GFX_ORCHD.lua the same way as the scripts above. It needs
    nothing but REAPER (no extensions).

USING THE PLUG-INS
------------------

Most panels share a few habits:

  - Double-click a knob to reset it to its default.
  - Hover over a knob to see its current value.
  - S / M / L change the panel size; if the plug-in window is smaller, the
    panel shrinks to fit it.
  - PRESETS (or a click on the preset display) opens the factory presets;
the < / > buttons beside it step through them. The presets are also
the last parameter in REAPER's parameter list ("Preset"), so a screen
reader or automation can choose one without the panel.
  - ? shows the design credit and the website address.

Each manual describes its plug-in control by control, with its presets and
a few tips.

TROUBLESHOOTING
---------------

  - A plug-in shows an error about a missing file: the .jsfx-inc files are
not in the same folder as the .jsfx files. Copy them all together.
  - The plug-ins don't appear in the FX browser: press F5 in the FX browser
    to rescan, or restart REAPER.
  - The text is too small: click L for the large panel, and make the
plug-in window big enough to show it at full size.

Thanks for using GFX.
